MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Lightscapade Review

Friday, 4 July 2014

Ever since I can remember I've always saw people with gorgeous highlighted skin and envied them. For some people finding a good highlighter to add to your makeup collection is as easy as buying any other makeup item. It's not for me. Although I love my 'English rose' fair skin when it comes to things like pulling off dramatic lipstick, it tends to make finding a highlighter that works a near impossible task. The whole point of a highlighter is to lighten the high planes of your face, giving a luminous look and adding more dimension. It's pretty hard to do that if the highlighter is darker than your skin, which in most cases for me they are. Pretty much every highlighter I'd tried was either too dark, too gold toned, or simply just didn't show up at all. As I'm sure you all know, everyone and their mothers are constantly raving about MAC's Mineralize skin finish in Soft and Gentle. I considered buying it but when I looked up swatches online I just knew it wouldn't suit my skin tone, that's when I came across the shade Lightscapade.

For once I what I saw before me wasn't another gold, too dark for my skin highlighter, but instead something which actually looked pale enough to work. After looking at swatches for what seemed like ages I decided to just go for it and buy it. If you're not familiar with Mineralize skinfinishes they're a finely milled powder that comes dome shaped, similar to baked blushes. From what I'm aware, Lightscapade used to be a limited edition MSF that kept being released throughout different collections until recently MAC made it part of their permenant collection. Lightscapade is described as a "Soft candle-light beige with multidimensional shimmer" to me it comes of as a light beige-almost white- colour that's very neutral to cool toned which is perfect for fair skinned girls like me. Throughout the product their is beautiful blue veining, mine has quite a lot but each one differs.
I will admit that when I swatched this my first thought was "Wow that's a lot of shimmer, I hope it doesn't give me the Edward Cullen look" but i needn't have worried. When applied this highlighter actually looks surprisingly natural! Sure there's a lot of shimmer in it, but you really can't tell unless you're in extremely bright sunlight. The finish this gives is a gorgeous quite natural looking glow that really does just brighten up your face. I think after all this time I've finally found a holy grail highlighter! I would definetly reccommend checking this out no matter what your skin tone, as although it works well for a natural look a fair skinned ladies, it would also look beautiful as a more dramatic highlight on deeper skin tones.

Have you tried this or any of MAC's mineralize skinfinshes before?
What's your Holy Grail highlighter?
